Winchester residents and campaigners will gather by County Council offices to protest the planned closure of Chesil Lodge Day Care Centre.

Hundreds of people are expected to protest cuts planned by the Conservative led council, including local Lib Dem MP Danny Chambers.

Chesil Lodge Day Care Centre provides day care services for older adults, including those living with dementia, other long-term health conditions, or those at risk of social isolation.

Danny Chambers says: “Chesil Lodge means a huge amount to the residents of Winchester. It's a safe for carers to leave their loved ones and it is a community as well. We absolutely need to provide communities for adults who need care.”

“It is important for the individuals who are cared for at Chesil Lodge. It is also important for mental health of the carers who often need to have a break from caring. It also saves the council money in the long run, so it will be a false economy to shut Chesil Lodge.”

“It will cost the council more if those people end up going into full-time residential care. So, we must keep it open for the patients and for the taxpayer.”

A meeting with the council had been requested by the MP to discuss the matter.
