New orthopaedic outpatients department opens at Winchester’s Royal Hampshire County Hospital
State-of-the-art facility aims to improve orthopaedic care
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has officially opened a new Orthopaedic Outpatients Department (OOPD) at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, providing improved facilities for residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
The modern facility features seven consultation rooms, including a dedicated room for dressings, a co-located plain film x-ray service, four fracture clinic assessment booths, and an adjacent plaster room.
Investment in orthopaedic care
The expansion of orthopaedic services aligns with Hampshire Hospitals’ programme of investment, which also includes the development of a Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre.
Located at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre provides surgical procedures, such as hip and knee replacements, and caters to patients from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Consultants from Hampshire Hospitals and University Hospital Southampton operate at this facility.
Both projects aim to meet rising demand for orthopaedic care across the county while delivering services in modern, efficient spaces.
Sue Harriman, Chief Executive of Hampshire Hospitals, said: “We are delighted to open our newly expanded Orthopaedic Outpatients Department!
“This new facility further strengthens our commitment to delivering the very best care for our communities and, alongside our new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre, transforms the orthopaedic offering at Hampshire Hospitals, enhancing capacity and supporting a more efficient journey through the service.
“Our teams and partners have worked tremendously hard to bring this project to life, and we are proud to see it now supporting improved experiences for both patients and staff.”
Enhanced patient experience
Dr Lara Alloway, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, highlighted the benefits of the investment.
“Our investment in the purpose-built Orthopaedic Outpatients Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital will enable us to care for more patients in a fantastic environment, which will improve the experience and efficiency of the orthopaedic services provided,” Dr Alloway said.
The new facility reflects the Trust’s commitment to delivering high-quality care aligned with the national 10 Year Plan.
