Man jailed for 'unprovoked and premeditated' stabbing in Shanklin
36 year old Aaron Caley attacked the victim in June last year
An Isle of Wight man's been jailed for three years for stabbing another man in Shanklin, in what's been called an 'unprovoked and premeditated' attack.
36 year old Aaron Caley stabbed the victim in the back and slashed his wrist in an incident on the High Street in June last year.
Caley, from Pellhurst Road in Ryde, and the victim had only recently come to know each other when it happened.
The man has been asked by Caley on two occasions in the days beforehand, if he could acquire drugs for him, which the victim refused to do on both occasions.
Police were called after the stabbing and Caley was quickly identified and arrested.
He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a knife in a public place.
Caley admitted the knife possession charge, but denied the assault and the case went to trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.
He was found guilty of GBH with intent, and was sentenced at the same court yesterday (Friday 14th February).
DC Dani Morris, who investigated the case, said:
“We hear all too often the devastating impact that carrying and using knives can have, and as a police force we take a zero tolerance approach to knife crime.
“This was an unprovoked, premeditated attack which took place in broad daylight in a built up area, highlighting just how dangerous and careless Caley’s actions were. Fortunately for the victim, this did not result in life-threatening injuries. The outcome could have, however, been far more severe and even fatal, and Caley will now spend a length of time in prison as a result of his shocking actions that day."
