Man arrested on suspicion of murder after shooting in Southampton
The fatal incident happened in Coxford last night
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a shooting at a house in Southampton.
Police were called to Conifer Road in Coxford at around 8pm last night.
Officers arrived to find the man with serious injuries, but despite receiving immediate treatment, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Efforts are ongoing to locate his family.
A 31-year-old man from Southampton was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.
He is being held on suspicion of murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
A police cordon is in place at the address, and detectives are conducting house-to-house inquiries to piece together the events leading to the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Clair Trueman, leading the investigation, stressed the gravity of any incident involving guns and assured the local community of a thorough investigation.
Trueman said: "Any time you hear of an incident involving a gun, it will undoubtedly be of concern for local residents."

Chief Inspector Chris Douglas, Deputy District Commander for Southampton, confirmed local patrols would increase in the Coxford area to support the investigation and community safety.
Douglas said: "We have officers from our local policing team in the Coxford area, carrying out additional patrols and supporting the investigation today and this will continue in the coming days."
He encouraged residents to share any information they may have and address any concerns with officers in the area.
