Police were called to Furrlongs, Newport, on the Isle of Wight, at 4.37pm on Monday, December 29, following the crash involving a black Ford Transit van and the red "electrically-assisted pushbike".

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said that the rider, a 44-year-old man from Newport, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he later died.

He said: "His family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

"Prior to the cyclist's death, a 63-year-old man from Godshill was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving and was released under investigation to allow us to conduct further inquiries."

The spokesman added: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision, and anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage to please get in touch, if you haven't done so already."
