Flash floods cause disruption across the Isle of Wight

Residents urged to stay safe as the Island deals with widespread flooding

The Isle of Wight Council and partner agencies are working to assess the damage caused by flash floods affecting multiple areas of the Island on 1st February.

Disruption to the Island’s road network has led to public transport diversions. Residents are advised to check updates via Southern Vectis’ Facebook page.

Island Roads has also issued updates, including emergency road closures due to flood damage, with details shared on their social media channels.

Safety advice amid further rain

More rain is forecast for this evening by the Met Office, and the Isle of Wight Council is urging residents to follow safety advice:

Avoid contact with flood water

Do not drive through flood water

Ensure children do not play in it

Watch for hidden dangers such as sharp objects, raised manhole covers, and pollution if you must pass through flooded areas

Sandbag locations

Due to the severity of the flooding, sandbags are being delivered to Whitwell at the bottom of Nettlecombe Lane and Niton at Allotment Road for local residents to use.
