Hampshire charity urge Prime Minister to prioritise violence against women and girls
A Hampshire charity's urging Prime Minister Andy Burnham to prioritise violence against women and girls.
Stop Domestic Abuse are calling on him to increase investment into specialised services such as their charity.
They say they hope he'll continue Labour's promise to halve violence against women and girls within a decade.
Claire Lambon's CEO of the charity and said: "It is still very early in Prime Minister Andy Burnham's time in office.
"We haven't seen any major announcements specifically on violence against women and girls, but he has put an emphasis on prevention, tackling inequality, strengthening local public services, which could provide an opportunity.
"The domestic abuse sector will now be looking for that to translate into sustained investment, stronger perpetrator accountability, long-term cross-government commitment to ending violence against women and girls.
"I think really the question now is how quickly can the government turn its commitment to halve violence against women and girls into practical action for survivors and the specialist services supporting them?"
