Hampshire Trading Standards warn of dangers in unsafe adaptor sales
They say they can pose fire risk
Hampshire Trading Standards is warning us about the dangers and potential fire risks of unsafe adaptors being sold online.
They say they're regularly involved in seizes of the item - and try to intervene before they hit our streets.
Richard Strawson's Head of Hampshire Trading Standards.
He said: "Unfortunately, we're involved in seeing potentially unsafe and illegal adaptors on sale.
"They're quite easily and readily supplied online.
"We're involved in Hampshire in quite a lot of borders and port work, which means what we try and do is try and intercept the illegal products at point of entry before they get distributed to either retailers or online sellers.
"Unfortunately, we see a lot of non-compliance and that's cheap goods made cheaply and not up to the safety requirements that we need in the UK."
The products can cause electrical risks and cause fires through overheating.
Mr Strawson's giving his advice.
He said: "The demand is always there and our advice to people would be just to buy from legitimate sources.
"Don't necessarily buy the cheapest.
"Look for a brand you can trust, and when you get it, have a look at it.
"If it seems substandard, don't use it, discard it, and try something else."
