As yellow weather warnings for rain continue across the South Coast, pubs are telling us it's a "nerve-wracking" time.

It comes as yellow weather warnings for rain are expected to continue late into the evening today.

The Woolpack at Sopley in the New Forest was flooded in a recent bout of rainfall and may not be able to open for months.

Barbara Smith, Manager at The Woolpack, said: "We had an awful lot of rain and the water level just kept rising during the morning.

"We had customers in the bar and everything.

"Then it started to come in through the walls, behind the fireplace into our main bar, and all the water just started trickling in.

"We thought it would just be a couple of inches, but after that, every half an hour it was going up six or seven inches.

"We had customers in the conservatory that eventually had to paddle out!"

Ms Smith's telling us about the clean-up.

She said: "In the past when it's happened, it's just been water from the brook itself, so it's been fairly easy to clean up and dry out.

"This time, the trouble was that the ground around was so full of water that the brook water mixed with the drain water as well and contaminated all the floors and furniture.

"So all the furniture, for example, has now been taken away to be sanitised or thrown away, all the fridges behind the bar are being thrown away because the water was going in behind the bar.

"We tried to save what stock we could, but the glassware started to just float around the pub.

"It was a bit of a disaster."

She added that the community have been "wonderful" and have rallied together to help the pub to clear up the water and floors.

They hope to reopen for Easter.
