As people gear up to travel for the bank holiday - we're hearing there's been nearly two hundred thousand pot-hole related incidents already in 2026.

The AA say they've attended 193,000 pothole-related breakdowns.

Andy Smith works for the AA across Hampshire.

He said: "This is quite prominent at the moment.

"Already in 2026, we at the AA have attended 193,000 pothole-related breakdowns.

"That's an average of 64,000 a month.

"With the best wheel in the world, you can't always avoid them and most modern cars now don't carry spare wheels anymore.

"So it can be quite an inconvenience for people.

"More cars on the roads will generate more incidents.

"If you're in your hometown, you probably already know where the potholes are, but if you're travelling further afield, you're in uncharted territory."

The AA's offering advice to drivers this weekend.

Mr Smith added: "We like to use the acronym FLOWER.

"It's a very simple one to remember.

"Fuel, lights, oil, water, electric, and rubber.

"If you just remember that list and take your way through it, you're going to cover most things on the car that could go wrong."
