Drivers across Hampshire are being urged to take extra caution as we move into Halloween week with more drivers and pedestrians on the road in the dark.

2023 and 2024 saw more than two thousand five hundred road casualties nationally in October - according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Drivers are being reminded of the need for extra vigilance around Halloween - especially when children are out trick-or-treating.

Rebecca Guy, Senior Policy Manager at RoSPA, said:  “The fact that collision numbers haven’t budged is a clear sign that we need to do more.

"While it’s particularly important to drive slowly in residential areas around Halloween, everyone must stay extra alert whenever they’re on or by the roads during the darker hours in order to avoid the real-life nightmare of severe injuries - or even death.”

RoSPA is warning anyone who uses the roads to be extra careful, as new figures show road collisions and casualties in October remain broadly similar year-on-year.

They say there was only a slight drop in the number of people killed and seriously injured – down 0.9 per cent from 2,553 in October 2023 to 2,530 in 2024.
