Hampshire potholes causing more frustration and problems for drivers, says expert
The AA says potholes is the "number one transport issue for 96% of drivers"
A Hampshire road safety expert says potholes are causing continuing frustration and problems for drivers.
Andy Smith from the AA says 57,000 calls are made monthly on a national basis about pothole-related problems.
He's telling us the impact.
He said: "It's a phenomenal amount and it's not going down.
"An average cost to a customer is about £350 because you're looking at damaged tyres, damaged wheels, and on some of the more prestigious cars, you're talking much higher numbers."
The AA's president, Edmund King OBE, says Britain's roads have become the "number one issue" for drivers, businesses and the wider economy.
He said: “It is the number one transport issue for 96% of drivers. At The AA we see it first-hand.
"Last year our patrols were called out to 617,000 pothole-related incidents — punctures, damaged wheels, steering and suspension damage.
"For drivers, it is the worst feeling: dark nights, wet roads, puddles, you can’t see the pothole, and then you hear the bang.”
