Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary encouraging people to become Special Constables
An event is taking place for people to learn more
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary's encouraging people to volunteer in the Special Constabulary by hosting an event today.
Special Constables are fully-trained volunteer police officers with the same powers as regular officers.
Darren Roberts is a Special Constable and is telling us what difference it's made to him.
He said: "You get purpose.
"You get confidence.
"You get perspective.
"You learn skills you never knew you had – communication, decision-making, staying calm under pressure.
"More than anything you get the quiet pride of knowing you were part of making a difference when it really mattered to someone."
The event at Tubbs Hall in Winchester will host a team of police staff and officers who can answer various questions.
Russell Morrison, Special Superintendent and Special Constabulary Lead said: “Becoming a Special Constable is more than volunteering - it’s about serving your community, learning new skills and joining a team that values your contribution. It’s an opportunity to make a real impact.
“Not sure if it’s for you?
"Come along and find out!
"There’s no commitment, just an opportunity to ask questions, meet the team, and explore whether this could be the right fit for you.
"We’re here to start the conversation.”
It will be running from 10am until 2pm.
