Firefighters tackle large blaze in New Forest

More than 50 firefighters have been tackling a large fire in the New Forest.

Crews were called shortly after 2.30pm yesterday (8 August) to Godshill Inclosure.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the fire covered an area of approximately 30 metres by 80 metres, with the terrain making conditions "challenging".

They have also been supported by crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services.

A small team of firefighters remained at the scene last night, with resources increased again on Sunday.

In an update, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said crews had "made good progress".

Firefighters are expected to maintain a presence at the scene throughout the day, damping down hotspots and preventing the fire from spreading.
