Fire service reveals consultation error

A question asking for alternative solutions to the proposed closure of eight on-call fire stations was missing from paper copies

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) says an administrative error has been identified affecting paper copies of a consultation questionnaire on the proposed closure of eight on-call fire stations.

The paper copies, distributed during public events, were missing a question about whether respondents had alternative suggestions to the proposals, including options to prevent fire station closures.

The online consultation questionnaire remains unaffected.

Despite paper responses comprising a smaller portion of overall feedback, steps are being taken to ensure everyone has the chance to fully address this aspect.

We can submit out alternative suggestions through three methods: a short online form, updated paper forms available at the eight fire stations proposed for closure, or by emailing their comments to [email protected].

The consultation will continue until 15th May 2026, and the organisation has emphasized that no decisions have been made regarding any station closures.

All responses, including any further submissions, will be considered as part of the consultation analysis and decision-making process.

DWFRS says efforts are underway to maintain transparency and fairness in the consultation process, following this error.
