The baby was in a pushchair on Shirley Precinct when it happened, at around 3.20pm on Friday 21st August.

Hampshire Police said the dog lunged towards the boy and its teeth made contact with his face.

He suffered two small puncture wounds and grazing, and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers have been carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

They now want to speak to a woman who may have information that could help.

She has been described as white, 5ft 7ins tall and of large build.

The dog, believed to be a German Shepherd, was wearing a soft mesh-style muzzle.

Anyone who recognises the woman, or who witnessed what happened, is asked to call police on 101.

Information can also be submitted through the Hampshire Police website.
