Murder investigation launched after woman stabbed in Hampshire village

A murder investigation is underway following the death of a 68-year-old woman in Cheriton.

Police were called at 10.31am on Friday 9th January to an address off the B3046 after concerns were raised for the welfare of Gilly Livie.

Officers found Gilly inside the property with serious injuries. Despite efforts from the attending police and ambulance teams, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Gilly died as a result of a stab wound to the neck.

Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Investigation details

At the scene, officers also located a 39-year-old man, who was known to Gilly.

The man, who had injuries to his neck and leg initially described as life-threatening, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Gilly’s death, though it has been confirmed that no other suspects are currently being sought in connection with the case.

District commander Chief Inspector Korine Bishop said:

“We know this incident will cause great shock in the community. I want to reassure people we have a large number of officers working hard on this investigation.

“While those enquiries are ongoing, we do not believe there is any further or ongoing risk to the community. At this time we are not looking for any other third party in connection to this investigation, but will continue to investigate with an open mind.

“Our officers have been carrying out enquiries at the address since this was reported to us, and are likely to remain in the area in the coming days.

“If you live locally and have any concerns or questions, please speak to those uniformed officers.”

Appeal for information

Police are asking residents of Cheriton with CCTV cameras to check footage between the hours of 11pm on 8th January and 11am on 9th January.
