Man arrested in Cheriton murder investigation

Detectives have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of 68-year-old Gilly Livie in Cheriton.

Police were called to an address off the B3046 at approximately 10.30am on 9th January after Gilly was found with serious injuries. Despite efforts from officers and the ambulance service, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem later confirmed she had died as a result of a stab wound to her neck.

On the same day, officers found a 39-year-old man at the address with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

On 19th January, police confirmed that they have arrested the man on suspicion of murder. He remains in hospital and will be transferred to a police station when he is well enough.

Inspector Stuart Ross from Winchester district said: “Detectives continue to work hard to find out exactly what happened to Gilly."
