Campaigners warn of widespread grooming crime after Hampshire man sentenced
A man from Hampshire has been sentenced after grooming a teenage girl through Roblox
Online safety campaigners are warning us of widespread grooming crime after a Hampshire man is sentenced.
It comes after 19-year-old Carlo Tritta from Eastleigh was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment yesterday after grooming a teenage girl on Roblox.
Campaigners tell us grooming is too commonly seen.
Jennifer Powers, Founder of Unplugged Coalition, said: "This case is not as rare as we'd like to think.
"It's really important that parents understand this isn't just academic, this could happen to your child.
"It's happening to children all across the country every day.
"We've had 10 or 15 years now where we've been trying to clean up the internet and make the online world safe for children.
"I think whilst there's been some improvements, it's not something that can be made entirely safe."
Ms Powers told us more about the dangers of social media platforms for children.
She said: "The algorithm will show us things that peak our curiosity, and it may not start with that really harmful content; but within a few clicks or visits, something that seems quite innocuous, can turn dark really, really quickly.
