Firefighters leave scene of New Forest wildfire after a fortnight

After two weeks of tackling the wildfire in the New Forest, firefighters have left the scene off the A31.

The road has now reopened, but smoke-like conditions have been reported, believed to be from dust and debris rather than renewed fire.

Fire crews, supported by teams from various agencies and national specialists, have worked diligently since the blaze began.

Members of the community have shown patience with the disruption, and fire services have acknowledged their support and that of the Rapid Relief Team, who provided essential supplies to personnel on-site.

Additionally, precautionary measures have been implemented nationally to prevent further wildfires, including a temporary ban on disposable barbecues.

Residents and visitors are urged to avoid lighting campfires or bonfires, properly extinguish smoking materials, and take litter home.
