Around 70 homes in Gosport told to boil their drinking water
It's after the discovery of bacteria
Last updated 20th Oct 2026
Around 70 Portsmouth Water customers have been asked to boil their drinking water.
Water for brushing teeth, washing up and washing pets also needs to be boiled.
It's after bacteria has been found in test samples from a fire hydrant during a routine quatity test over the weekend.
The company says its waiting for the results of further analysis.
In the meantime people living in Martin Close, Bullfinch Court, Magpie Lane and Chaffinch Way in Lee-on-the-Solent should boil their tap water.
A spokesperson for Portsmouth Water said:
"We continue to ask the residents of around 70 properties in Lee-on-the-Solent to boil water before drinking, brushing teeth, cleaning dishes or giving to pets.
"As providing safe drinking water is our priority, we have taken this precautionary measure while we fully investigate and run further water quality tests.
"The additional water samples we took yesterday have been incubated overnight for analysis today. We would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding."
Bottled water stations have been set up.
