40 firefighters tackle thatched cottage blaze in the New Forest

More than 40 firefighters have tackled a thatched cottage fire in the New Forest.

10 fire engines were called to Lyndhurst Road in Hinton last night.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said:

"There was no one in the property upon our arrival, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

"At the height of the incident 10 fire engines were in attendance, along with an aerial ladder platform vehicle.

"Firefighters from HIWFRS and Dorset & Wiltshire FRS are using breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reel jets to tackle the blaze."

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

People were asked to keep their doors and windows closed due to the smoke
