Two individuals have been taken into custody following a serious assault in Burnham-on-Sea early this morning.

Authorities responded around 6:15 am to a distress call from the ambulance service reporting a person with a potentially life-changing wrist laceration at Apex Park, Marine Drive.

Upon their arrival, police discovered two more individuals with injuries.

All three victims have been transported to a hospital for further treatment by paramedics.

Following initial investigations and a review of CCTV footage, a 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Becky Wells-Cole commented on the situation:

“We understand this will be a very distressing scene for some people but we would like to reassure you that we believe this is an isolated incident and the individuals are all known to each other.”

She added that inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Residents of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge will notice an increased police presence in the areas surrounding Apex Park.

“If anyone has any concerns, I do encourage you to speak to your local neighbourhood police officer as they can provide reassurance,” Wells-Cole said.
