Third pharmacy opens as Wellington welcomes new healthcare facility
The town gains a pharmacy after reduced provision for residents
Residents of Wellington will benefit from improved pharmacy services as the town welcomes a third pharmacy, officially opened by MP Gideon Amos today.
Allied Pharmacies has taken over the premises formerly occupied by Jhoots behind the closed Luson Surgery on Mantle Street, expanding pharmacy services in the area.
The pharmacy landscape in Wellington has been under strain since closures reduced the available outlets to just two last year.
The Boots facility at Wellington Medical Centre closed two years ago, followed by Jhoots last September.
Mr Amos has actively campaigned for better pharmacy provision in Wellington and was instrumental in facilitating the opening of the new Allied Pharmacies outlet.
He said: "Wellington has been without adequate pharmacy provision since both Jhoots and Boots at the Medical Centre closed their doors.
"I was delighted to be asked to conduct the opening of this much needed pharmacy following meetings with several companies and working with NHS Somerset on the issue over the past year.
"I pay tribute to the volunteer campaigners and the town council who, like me, have added their pressure to get more facilities for the area.”
A spokesperson for Allied Pharmacies expressed pride in reopening the Wellington pharmacy, acknowledging community support.
"We are proud to officially open the Wellington pharmacy and re-establish this vital healthcare service for the local community,” they said.
“We are grateful for the support shown by local representatives and the community, and we are delighted to welcome everyone back through our doors.
"Our team is committed to delivering excellent pharmaceutical care and ensuring residents have convenient access to prescriptions, healthcare services, and professional advice."
Last week, Wellington received more promising news with the approved application for a fourth pharmacy at Westpark 26, Chelston, subject to appeal.
