A temporary Post Office has opened in Minehead following efforts by Rachel Gilmour MP to restore postal services to the town.

The temporary service started at Queens Hall on Warren Road on 25th August, addressing the gap left by the closure of the last Post Office on The Avenue in June.

Rachel Gilmour, the MP for Tiverton and Minehead, was proactive in urging Post Office UK to act swiftly after the shut-down of The Avenue location, previously run by Co-op.

Gilmour maintained ongoing communication with Post Office UK to ensure that residents could once again access essential postal services locally.

Her efforts have now resulted in the temporary service, but she plans to keep pressing for a permanent solution.

Gilmour expressed her commitment to supporting the transition to a permanent Post Office in Minehead and also aims to secure similar services for the nearby town of Watchet.

Rachel Gilmour said:

"Post offices are a vital part of rural communities. They offer essential services and are often a lifeline for elderly residents and anyone without reliable transport or digital connectivity."

"That's why I successfully pushed for postal services to be restored in Minehead, eliminating the need for residents to travel over two miles to Dunster or Timberscombe following the closure in June."

"The temporary opening is better late than never and aims to serve as a bridge until a permanent service is available. I will offer my support to the new provider to ensure residents experience a smooth transition."

"I will keep working with the Post Office to ensure access for everyone in Minehead and now in Watchet too."

The temporary Post Office counter is located at Queens Hall, Warren Road, Minehead, TA24 5BG.
