Somerset reservoirs 'exceptionally low'

Reservoir storage in England currently stands at 75%, around seven percentage points below the long-term average for the time of year, the Environment Agency said.

Two reservoirs are classed as having “exceptionally low” levels: Blagdon (59% full) and Wimbleball (57%), both of which are in Somerset.

A further six reservoirs are “notably low”: Clatworthy in Somerset (59% full); Clywedog in Powys, which provides water for central and north-west England (76%); the Dove Group of reservoirs in Derbyshire (80%); Grafham in Cambridgeshire (81%); Hanningfield in Essex (70%); and the Lower Thames Group of reservoirs in Berkshire and west London (78%).

While overall storage in England is below the long-term average, the level is currently higher than at this point in July 2025 and July 2022.

The updates are included in the Environment Agency’s latest weekly dry weather and drought report, which was published today (Friday).
