A cosmetics factory in Wellington that has been operating for 150 years is set to close and move production to Scotland.

KDC/One, one of Wellington's largest employers, announced the proposed closure of its Swallowfield site earlier this year. Following consultation, the company confirmed its plans to move the production volume to a facility in Irvine, Scotland later in 2026.

The decision means significant changes for staff based in Wellington. A spokesperson for KDC/One said it was a "difficult decision" to relocate the work.

In response to the announcement, a representative from Wellington Town Council expressed concern for the employees affected.

"We are deeply concerned by the news affecting employees at KDC/One in Swallowfield, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted," the spokesperson said.

"Our priority now is to ensure that staff receive the support they need during this difficult period and are assisted in securing alternative employment.

"We are working closely with senior management at KDC/One, alongside the Economic Development Team at Somerset Council, to put in place a comprehensive support programme. This will include access to counselling services, financial guidance, and tailored assistance to help individuals find new job opportunities."
