Amid a major incident being declared in Somerset - with heavy flooding causing disruption across the county - we're also hearing from a care home.

They were forced to evacuate over the weekend, and we're being reassured that 'all residents are safe' following the 'unprecedented' levels of water gushing into the site in South Petherton.

The cleanup operation is now well underway.

Somerset Care spokesperson said: "We are glad to confirm that all residents at Burnworthy House in South Petherton are safe, warm and dry, following an unprecedented flooding event which affected the ground floor of the care home on Sunday 27th January. North Mill Brook, which runs behind the building, burst its banks on Sunday afternoon, following heavy rainfall.

"Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our residents, and we are now liaising with commissioners and the families of those in our care, to ensure that those impacted continue to receive the care they need whilst the cleanup operation gets underway.

"We would like to praise our quick-thinking colleagues at Burnworthy House for activating their emergency procedures to ensure that all residents were quickly moved upstairs to safety. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the South Petherton community, who rallied around to show their support for our residents and staff team."
