Roads re-open in Bath after sink hole appears

A number of roads in Bath city centre are open again after a sink hole appeared.
A minor underground explosion around 5pm on Wednesday 24 June is believed to have led to the road in High Street opening up.
A 15m cordon was put up for High Street, Bridge Street, Orange Grove, Bog Island, and North Parade - but Avon and Somerset Police confirm this has now been lifted.
A barrier remains in place around the immediately affected area.
A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: “Following a fault affecting our underground electricity network in Bath city centre on 24 June, our engineers have been on site working with the emergency services and local partners.
“There was no loss of power to customers. Incidents of this nature are rare, and the network includes built‑in safety systems to manage faults and limit wider impact.
“The area has been made safe and we will now excavate to complete repairs.
"This will require some temporary, planned interruptions to electricity supplies while we carry out the work safely.”
