RNLI on the lookout for new lifeguards in Somerset
The RNLI are looking for new lifeguards for the upcoming peak season, (Mid-June to September), on beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Brean in Somerset.
Latest statistics reveal that in 2024, RNLI lifeguards in the south west responded to 6,892 incidents, aided 9,178 people and saved 43 lives.
A specific training course will run on dates from late May - June and will take place at Weston Beach in North Somerset.
Brett Schofield, Lifeguard Supervisor for Somerset said:
‘Preparations for the 2025 lifeguard season are underway and we’ve opened up recruitment ahead of the new season looking to add to our fantastic team before we head back onto the beaches.
‘Being an RNLI lifeguard is a job like no other where you will get world class training in rescue techniques and casualty care, access to specialist equipment training all whilst being part of a team that helps keep people safe whilst they enjoy the beach.’
Applicants need to be aged 16+ on the day of the assessment, able to swim 400m in under 8 minutes in a pool, run 200 metres in less than 50 seconds on soft sand and be looking to apply to the local Sedgemoor RNLI beach lifeguard service.
