PROMISEworks pairs young people aged 5–25 with local mentors to help them navigate challenges at school, home, and work.

Since its launch in 2017, the charity has facilitated over 150 mentor-mentee partnerships across Somerset, but currently only eight are in West Somerset.

At the event, General Manager Ali Hart and Somerset Coast and Taunton Co-ordinator Sue Bill met with Rachel Gilmour, local councillors, stakeholders, mentors, and mentees to discuss the benefits of mentoring and how more volunteers can get involved.

Following the meeting, Rachel Gilmour committed to lobbying the education minister and pursuing Westminster debates to support mentoring programmes in the community.

Sue Bill said:

"The event created a valuable opportunity to strengthen local connections, exchange ideas, and highlight the positive impact mentoring can have on a young person’s life."

"We hope it inspires others across our community to step forward and make a lasting difference."

Rachel Gilmour added:

"There is a waiting list in West Somerset for young people to receive mentoring. You don’t need to be an expert – just kind and able to spare a few hours each week. If you’re interested, please get in touch with PROMISEworks."
