Police conduct reconstruction of Minehead coach crash that killed 10-year-old boy
10-year old Oliver Price died in the incident in July
A partial reconstruction of the Minehead coach crash that claimed the life of 10-year-old boy has been conducted by police.
Oliver Price died when the coach carrying students from Minehead Middle School left the A396 at Cutcombe Hill near Minehead, Somerset, and slid down a 20ft slope on July 17.
The A396 was closed between Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe on Wednesday (November 5) so police could carry out investigative work at the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police said officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team drove a similar coach along the route to help them work out the circumstances which led to the incident.
A statement from police said, “This step is a part of the investigative process, and is a common practice in many serious collisions, aimed at accurately determining a sequence of events and factors involved in the collision.
“Through this process, investigators are better equipped to obtain clear answers and provide clarity of all parties affected.
“The temporary road closure was necessary to ensure the reconstruction could be completed safely and without interference.”
The force confirmed that Oliver’s family was informed about the reconstruction in advance and said officers are continuing to support them during the investigation.
“We would like to thank the public’s understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a thorough investigation can be conducted,” the police added.
