Graffiti has been sprayed on place of Worship in Minehead, just weeks after the same building was targeted in another suspected hate crime.

The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Mart Road was sprayed with a term associated with the far right between 2pm on Sunday, 1st March, and 6am on Monday, 2nd March.

Last month, between the 15th and 18th of February, the same building was damaged with paint and dog faeces were posted inside.

Officers are carrying out uniformed patrols in the area to reassure the community and CCTV enquiries are being carried out as part of the investigation.

Avon and Somerset Police say they are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Neighbourhoods’ inspector Steve Jones said: “We are aware of previous incidents at the hall, and we want to reassure the community that reassurance patrols will continue to be carried out while investigations continue into what is being treated as a hate crime.

“We do not tolerate hate in our communities, are taking this seriously, and would urge anybody with information which could assist our enquiries to contact us.”

A man in his 50s was arrested in connection with the first incident in late February and has since been released on bail with conditions preventing him from visiting certain areas of Minehead.

Police appealing for anyone with information on the latest incident to contact them.
