The leader of North Somerset Council says he's confident the government will approve funding for the Portishead Railway imminently.

There was no mention of the scheme in Rachel Reeves’ spending review last week - with the funding remaining subject to her speech,

Reopening the line would connect to Temple Meads for the first time since the 60s.

Mr Bell said: “The Portishead to Bristol line has been many years in the making and we’re now approaching another milestone moment with the full business case decision that would allow us to roll up our sleeves, get on site and get building.

“I’d like to thank our partners at the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Network Rail, the Department for Transport and our local MPs who have worked tirelessly alongside North Somerset Council to bring the Portishead rail line to this juncture and we look forward to being able to share more news soon.”
