Devon and Somerset fire crews have confirmed the blaze at a barn in Withycombe has been extinguished after a multi-vehicle response yesterday morning (16 March).

It all comes after the force received 'multiple calls' just after 10am - with crews attending the reports of a blaze in the West Street area.

Initially, we're told that two pumping appliances and one water carrier were mobilised - with a further pumping appliance later mobilised because of the size of the incident.

Once crews were in attendance, a number of extra resources were requested. At present, there are six pumping appliances, one water carrier, a command support unit and an environmental protection unit in attendance, with an incident support unit en route.

The service have confirmed: "There was a fire involving two outbuildings and three heating oil tanks. Four domestic properties damaged by fire and radiated heat.

"All outbuildings and two heating oil tanks destroyed by fire.

"Domestic properties suffered moderate heat and fire damage to 10% of buildings.

"The fire was extinguished using twelve breathing apparatus, four thermal imaging cameras, one main jet and three hose reel jets."
