Two men from Yeovil and London have each been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder and firearms offences in a shooting incident in Yeovil last year.

James McGuinness, 31, from Yeovil and Junior Renford, 31, from London, were convicted by a jury at Taunton Crown Court for the attack on 1st October 2025, which took place at the Bofors Park trading estate.

Around midday, they pursued another vehicle in McGuinness’ red Dodge Nitro and fired a pistol at it, although fortunately, the two occupants escaped without injury.

The pair were arrested in the days following the incident and jointly charged with several offences, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Additionally, McGuinness faced charges of possessing a stun taser.

Both men denied the charges but were found guilty of all counts.

The sentencing occurred at Taunton Crown Court on Friday 3rd July 2026.

Detective Constable Josh Hawkins provided insight into the case, stating, “McGuinness and Renford showed a total disregard for anyone’s wellbeing when they decided to chase the victims through Yeovil while firing a pistol at them in what appeared to be a targeted attack.”

He added, “Their reckless actions put people at significant risk of harm and that has been reflected by both the seriousness of the offences they have been convicted of, but also the lengthy prison sentences they have both been given.”

Hawkins noted the extensive police investigation that led to their arrest, adding, “These two dangerous men pose a serious risk to the public and I’m pleased that they have now been taken off our streets for a significant period of time.”
