Uni of Bath's Matt Weston wins second gold in Winter Olympics
Team GB athlete secures a historic win in Livigno
Matt Weston, who trained at the University of Bath, has become the most decorated British Winter Olympian of all time after winning a second gold medal at the Winter Olympics.
Weston’s victory in the men's skeleton added to his previous achievement at these Games, marking an unprecedented success for Great Britain.
Team GB had never won more than one gold medal at a single Winter Olympics before.
The recent achievements in Livigno and Cortina, including Weston and Tabby Stoecker's gold in the skeleton event, have brought a historic high to the British team.
According to Team GB chef de mission Eve Muirhead, the team had a slow start but remained patient and positive throughout the first week of the Games.
Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale also secured gold in the mixed team snowboard cross, making history as the first British Olympic champions on snow.
In total, Great Britain won three gold medals within 48 hours, breaking past records and setting the stage for possible future successes.
With the teams looking to potentially equal or surpass their record of five medals in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, expectations are high for upcoming events like ski slopestyle and ski halfpipe, where Kirsty Muir and Zoe Atkin have strong medal chances.
The men's curling team and the four-man bobsleigh squad also remain contenders.
