A man has died after a two-vehicle collision on the M5 near Taunton.

Avon and Somerset Police said a rolling road block was put in place at 1.12pm on Tuesday 13th October because of debris on the northbound carriageway between junction 25 (Taunton) and junction 24 (Bridgwater South).

A two-vehicle crash happened shortly afterwards at the back of the slowing traffic.

Despite the efforts of emergency services at the scene, a man died.

Police said his family have been informed and are being supported by a specialist family liaison officer.

The motorway was closed in both directions during the initial emergency response.

The southbound carriageway reopened within a few hours.

The northbound carriageway stayed closed, while police gathered evidence at the scene and reopened around midnight.

Police have thanked drivers for their patience and understanding and are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision to contact them.
