Man charged after Yeovil firearm incident

A man is appearing in court today charged with firearms offences following an incident in Yeovil this week.

William Martin, 38, is charged with one count of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and a second of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Martin was arrested during a police response to Rosebery Avenue at around 1.50pm on Monday, following a report of a member of the public with a firearm.

During the police's response to the incident, a police firearm was discharged. No injuries were reported.

Martin, a Yeovil resident, was remanded in custody ahead of his appearance at Yeovil Magistrates’ Court today.

A second person, who lives outside the area, was arrested in connection with Avon and Somerset Police's investigation and has been released on conditional bail.
