An investigation is currently underway after a fire in Glastonbury caused significant damage on Saturday evening (13/6).

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene following a call shortly before 8.15pm on Beckery New Road.

Two caravans were severely damaged in the fire, with a third nearby also affected. Additionally, a wall connected to a neighbouring business sustained heat damage as a result of the blaze.

Sergeant Simon Lancey of the Glastonbury neighbourhood policing team described the fire as suspicious, pending results from ongoing fire investigation work.

"The fire caused a significant amount of damage but, fortunately, nobody was injured," Lancey said.

"If this fire was started deliberately, then that was an incredibly dangerous act."

Neighbourhood officers will be conducting patrols in the area over the coming days to assist those impacted by the fire and to support the investigation.

Police are urging anyone with information, witnesses, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or other footage of the incident, to come forward.

They can contact the police online or on 101 quoting reference number 5226163150 or reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously via its website or at 0800 555111.
