The annual Light up a Life campaign by St Margaret's Hospice is inviting Somerset residents to remember loved ones this winter while supporting hospice care for those facing life-limiting illnesses.

Supported by local Somerset man John Bell, who shares his poignant story of remembering his late wife, the appeal aims to raise £50,000. The funds will contribute to essential hospice services and provide care for families like John's.

This year's campaign brings back in-person remembrance events by popular demand.

Gatherings will be held at St John's Church in Yeovil on 29th November, and at Rumwell Farm Shop & Café near Taunton on 3rd December. There is also a specially created online remembrance service available from 4pm on 13th December, offering a way to participate from home.

John Bell expressed the significance of remembrance in his life, saying, "In order to fulfill my promise to her, I look for as many ways as possible to remember her."

Light up a Life is an opportunity for everyone across Somerset to make a dedication in memory of someone dear, regardless of prior connection to St Margaret’s Hospice.

Hannah Roberts, Head of Fundraising, stated, “By making a dedication and a donation, people can remember someone special while helping us provide care and support for more families like John and Tina.”

Through donations, St Margaret's Hospice can sustain valuable services such as home nursing visits and practical support for families. For example, £75 can fund a nursing visit, while £30 can ensure a family stays close to their loved one in the hospice overnight.

Supporters can make a dedication and donation online, at St Margaret’s Hospice shops, or through direct contact with the hospice. Dedications submitted by 1st December can be included in the Books of Remembrance and online service.

For John, Light up a Life symbolizes his commitment to honoring his late wife's memory, while providing essential aid to others.
