A fire in a building in Glastonbury in the early hours of this morning led to a road being closed for several hours.

Crews from Glastonbury, Street and Wells tackled the blaze inside the two storey property. An additional two fire engines were also mobilised from Shepton Mallet, including the Command Support Unit from Wiveliscombe.

The building was derelict, measuring approximately 5metres x 12metres and consisting of two floors. Due to the blaze, the property sustained a partial roof collapse and there were also solar panels involved in the fire.

Crews made steady progress extinguishing the fire throughout the early hours of the morning. The incident was then scaled back with two fire engines remaining in attendance to carry out damping down.

The A361 from Woodlands Road to Bere Lane was closed by police but has now been re-opened.
