Firefighters were quick to respond to a blaze involving caravans at a Tesco supermarket on Wirral Park Road, Glastonbury.

The incident began with multiple calls reporting a caravan on fire. Two fire appliances from Glastonbury and Street were dispatched initially.

As crews were en route, they observed a large plume of smoke and requested a third appliance from Wells.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that two caravans were ablaze nearby the store with a high risk of spreading.

The response was increased by an additional two fire appliances from Somerton and Shepton Mallet, as well as an aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater.

Fire crews arrived within minutes, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from extensively damaging the supermarket, which had been evacuated as a precaution.

The fire was under control by 10:40 pm after two caravans were completely destroyed, leaving the store with only 10% external damage.

The fire was confirmed to be started deliberately.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, main jets, a covering jet, ladders, fogging spikes, thermal imaging cameras, and ventilation fans in the effort to extinguish the fire.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

After ensuring the scene was safe, the incident was handed over to store staff and police.
