Somerset Council will be flying the Somerset flag today to mark Somerset Day — the annual celebration of our county’s history and identity, commemorating King Alfred the Great’s victory at the Battle of Edington.

The historic summons to the people of Somerset, “Sumorsǣte ealle” — all the people of Somerset — remains a powerful message of unity.

Alongside the Somerset flag, Somerset Council will continue to fly the Union Flag and St George’s Cross, proudly reflecting our British and English identity.

Bill Revans, Leader of Somerset Council said: “Flying these flags is not political, it’s a reflection of the values we hold dear in Somerset: inclusion, respect, solidarity and pride in our communities. Somerset Day is about all of us, and we will fly our flag with pride and with that spirit at the forefront.”
