Fiona Gibson to be consecrated as new Bishop of Taunton

Special services planned in London and Wells Cathedral

The Diocese of Bath and Wells is preparing to welcome Fiona Gibson as its new Bishop of Taunton.

Fiona will be consecrated as a bishop at Southwark Cathedral in London on Friday, 6th February 2026, at 11:00.

The consecration service will mark the start of her role as a bishop.

During the ceremony, other bishops will lay their hands on Fiona’s head, symbolising the passing of authority, while she makes promises to serve and uphold the Church’s teachings.

Michael Beasley, the Bishop of Bath and Wells, said, “We are very much looking forward to two wonderful celebrations in the next week as we prepare to welcome Fiona to our diocese.

"Many people from Bath and Wells will be making the journey up to London to witness her consecration, and all are welcome to share in the joy of her arrival at Wells Cathedral when she officially becomes Bishop of Taunton.

"Please hold Fiona and her family in your prayers as she prepares to take this exciting step in her ministry journey.”

Following her consecration, Fiona will be officially welcomed into the Diocese of Bath and Wells during Choral Evensong at Wells Cathedral on Sunday, 8th February at 15:00.

This service will mark the beginning of Fiona’s ministry in the diocese as Bishop of Taunton.
