Father and daughter to undertake 20-mile charity walk from Bridgwater to Wellington
Somerset teenager walks to support Children’s Hospice South West
A father and daughter duo from Bridgwater are set to embark on a 20-mile charity walk on 1st August to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West.
Freya Bird, 15, with her father Mike Bird, will walk from their hometown of Bridgwater to Wellington in memory of a school friend and as a tribute to Charlton Farm, part of Children’s Hospice South West.
The walk holds personal significance for Freya, who has faced challenging health issues, including undergoing two major brain surgeries over the past two years.
Freya said: "Over the past two years, I have undergone two major brain operations, so taking on a 20-mile walk certainly won't be easy. However, I am determined to complete it and push myself for a cause that means so much to me."
Mike Bird, who is walking alongside Freya, shared his pride in her determination, supporting her through this meaningful challenge.
Freya’s Motivation and Support
Freya chose Charlton Farm as the beneficiary of her fundraising efforts because of the care provided there to her late friend.
Freya said: "Walking in their memory is my way of saying thank you while helping ensure other families continue to receive the same compassionate care during the most difficult times."
Mike Bird, an account manager and manager of Wellington football club’s Ability Counts section, joins Freya in the walk, demonstrating his support and encouragement.
