English Tourism Week, taking place from 13th March to 22nd March 2026, is set to celebrate the significant role that tourism plays in places like Somerset and across the South West.
According to Andrew Stokes, Director of VisitEngland, tourism is crucial for the region, employing millions and generating important economic growth.
Figures show that domestic visitors spent £7.4 billion in Somerset between January and September 2025, reflecting significant growth from the previous year.
This year’s event is themed “Local Stories, National Growth,” aiming to spotlight the contributions of local businesses, accommodation providers, and attractions that sustain jobs and help communities thrive.
"Tourism supports independent businesses, including shops and restaurants, which are vital for local communities," Stokes said.
The celebration is also about encouraging residents to appreciate their surrounding attractions as tourists, fostering pride and driving local engagement.
"English Tourism Week is our chance to highlight the importance of tourism to key stakeholders, including government," Stokes said.
Additionally, during this week, the Tourism Superstar competition will reach its conclusion, with the winner receiving their award later in the year at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2026 ceremony.
Public voting is open until midnight on 22nd March 2026, allowing people to recognize individuals who excel in supporting the tourism industry.
Stokes emphasised working together and adding value to tourist offerings as strategies for growth.
For Somerset, extending visitor seasons and enhancing the coastal appeal are significant areas of focus to ensure sustained success.
