Emergency services say they've been dealing with a chemical leak overnight in Bridgwater.

Police and firefighters have been tackling the incident at a business park on Bristol Road.

The incident was stood down at around quarter to 11 last night (31/7).

Avon and Somerset Police said: "Crews from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have contained a chemical leak within a building in Bridgwater this evening, Thursday 31 July.

"We supported them with road closures as they tackled the incident at a business park at Bristol Road from 6.50pm. Roads reopened by 10.45pm."

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue added: "Fire engines from Bridgwater and Nether Stowey along with an Environmental Protection unit from Taunton are in attendance at a location in Bridgwater where there is a liquid ammonia leak within a contained building.

"More breathing apparatus was required to assist the crews so they requested another 2 fire engines attend for that reason - these were sent from Bridgwater and Burnham on Sea.

"They are currently working with a subject matter expert, using breathing apparatus, to isolate the leak and make the leaking vessel safe."
