Eleven puppies abandoned in Somerset park
The RSPCA say three of the pups - thought to be just hours old - were already dead when they were discovered in Snowdon Park In Chard
The RSPCA is appealing for information after eleven young puppies were found abandoned in a Somerset park.
The charity said three of the pups- thought to be just hours old - were already dead when they were discovered by a member of the public in Snowdon Park In Chard at around 8:30am on Monday (11 May).
They were rushed to the vet and they contacted the RSPCA about the discovery.
RSPCA Chief Inspector Lewis Taylor is investigating the case and is urging anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward: "It’s really sad to think that they were dumped at a time when they desperately needed urgent help and care. There is never an excuse for abandoning animals in this way.
“Sadly three of the dogs were already dead when they were found, including one who had a 4cm wound across the neck."
The surviving puppies have been treated by vets and are getting the care they need.
The RSPCA said it is dealing with rising cases of cruelty and neglect and there are a record number of animals in its care.
Taylor added: “Rescued from heartbreaking situations, many of our animals need extensive care and rehabilitation. Our centres are full, forcing us to use costly emergency boarding kennels, catteries and stables.
“Our expert teams, volunteers and branches work tirelessly to rehabilitate animals from physical and mental trauma. However, we can't achieve this alone. We need special people to open their hearts and homes to change these animals' lives forever.
“Every adoption creates vital space, allowing us to rescue more animals. We desperately need support and encourage animal lovers to find out more about animals in desperate need of homes through our rehoming
