Crews leave scene of major blaze near Taunton

Firefighters have left the scene of a significant fire at a manufacturing business in Henlade, near Taunton, after successfully extinguishing the blaze.

The fire, which involved 200 tonnes of wood and woodchip, started in the early hours of Thursday morning at Chipmunk South West, on Ilminster Road.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue reported that staff on-site used machinery to separate wood chippings into three piles with fire breaks.

A spokesperson told Greatest Hits Radio that the incident caused considerable damage, with a 15m X 15m metal storage container being completely destroyed.

A milk tanker sustained 10% damage due to fire.

During the height of the incident, crews from Taunton, Bridgwater, Wellington, Burnham-on-Sea, and Somerton were present.

They utilised four fire engines and a water bowser to tackle the flames.

The cause of the fire hasn't yet been confirmed.
